Since its market launch in 1974, this compact sports coupé has been the most successful Volkswagen in its segment: 795,650 vehicles were sold up to 1992. Currently, the third generation is being manufactured.

Today, at the VW Autoeuropa - Automóveis Ltda. plant in Portugal, just two years after its market launch, the hundred-thousandth third-generation Scirocco rolled off the production line. "The Scirocco is one of the most important cars that we produce. For myself personally, it was a moving moment", said Andreas Hinrichs, Autoeuropa Plant Manager.

The celebrated model is a Scirocco R 2.0 TSI, in Rising Blue Metallic, with a Titan Black interior, radio navigation system, Park Pilot and a tilting sunroof. In southern Portugal, with 3,000 employees, Volkswagen produces the Volkswagen Eos, the new Sharan and, since 2008, the third generation of the Scirocco.

With its attractive design and sporty appearance, the Scirocco leaves a lasting impression. In 2008, it swept up the AutoBILD Design Award and was named Car of the Year by Top Gear magazine. The Scirocco is looking just as good in motor sports as it does on the open road: already in 2008, the racing version of the new Scirocco occupied top ranks at the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring. In its first time at the competition in 2009, the Scirocco GT24-CNG (natural gas) won in the alternative-drive class.

Straight away the forbidding face of the transformed Scirocco reveals that this is no mere mass-produced car out for a Sunday run. The new headlight covers by RDX RACEDESIGN make the Wolfsburg car look resolutely forwards. The covers are fixed to the headlights with the special glue included and do not need to be inspected by the Technical Control Board TÜV. The set is supplied by RDX RACEDESIGN for only 49 Euro including VAT.

It is the RDX front spoiler which is chiefly responsible for the bodykit's dynamic optical effect. It enhances not only the sporty appearance, but in fact also improves the coupe’s aerodynamics. For 169 Euro a TÜV component certificate is included in delivery so that the spoiler can be registered in the vehicle's documents without further ado.

The side skirts give the impression that the bodywork has been widened, because visually the Scirocco sits lower and squatter on the road. The curved contours and the rear grille inserts underline the wedge look and therefore contribute to the dynamic transformation. The diffuser hinted at in the rear bumper extension completes the aerodynamics package. The fine-meshed grating surrounds the exhausts and takes care of the sporty rear view. The rear bumper extension likewise requires no technical registration and is for sale at 199 Euro.

The roof spoiler which elongates the roof line far to the rear leaves no room for doubt about the new sporty character of the RDX Scirocco. After a considerable amount of road and dyno testing, the new system is available as a direct bolt-on replacement to the OEM part. Bolting directly to the rear of the factory catalyst pipe, the 70mm system is available in two fitments. Either a centre and rear box for those that want maximum extraction with minimum intrusion, or for those that prefer a sportier tone, a Sports bypass pipe is available, leaving just the rear box to handle silencing duties. One of the biggest advantages over competitor's designs is that Scorpion's engineers have invested considerable time in studying the flatter profile of the factory rear box when designing theirs. Despite no loss in flow, the flatter Scorpion rear box tucks up into the rear underbody far more neatly than any other aftermarket system, improving looks, ground clearance and the all-important under car air-flow characteristics. This is an element often overlooked by aftermarket manufacturers, but it's careful consideration is hardly surprising when you consider the wealth of OEM experience that Scorpion has to draw from.

Whilst the fit and finish are certainly as the factory intended, power and throttle response gains are most definitely not! - with consistent improvements of between 5 and 10% being recorded during Scorpion's extensive testing regime. Also finalised, but still undergoing full Global approval, is the firm’s high-flowing sports cat that will bring significant performance gains whilst retaining full legality in all markets. Expect to see this later in the year.

Each system is precision-fabricated at Scorpion’s UK factory from aerospace quality T304 Stainless Steel and carries a lifetime guarantee. The sound is far more sonorous than the standard item, with a nice growl when pressing on, but keeping a subtle note for comfortable cruising.

Usefully, this box will fit all 1.4 and 2.0 TSI Scirocco models, providing more grunt, more growl - and more grins. Priced at just £418.95 for the single box system and £523.95 for the twin box set up, it’s the first essential modification for any hot ‘Rocco.

The sporty and dynamic traits are expertly and successfully complemented by the OETTINGER body. The powerful engine conversions are also impressive. The heart of a sport coupe is and remains the engine!

There are already some different stages to choose from. You can get 300 PS from the 2.0 TSI engine with an OETTINGER turbocharger and exhaust manifold, pressure pipe modified, bigger intercooler and new engine management. Or just 240 PS only with a new modified engine management software. OETTINGER is also working on a 310 PS software version for the Scirocco R. This software is on development and TÜV approval in preparation. Unconstrained propulsion and secure on the limit performance will be provided for before the year is out with up to 350 PS and 470 Nm (2.0 TSI), a specially tuned adjustable suspension and larger brakes.

Not only increased engine power but also the continued reliability has always been a priority for OETTINGER. This means that every new engine development must undergo intensive testing on the dynamometer and test tack followed by emissions testing at the emissions testing laboratory of the TÜV Rheinland.

You can also get a bigger intercooler. The OETTINGER intercooler replaces the standard intercooler. The installation requires approx. 4-5 hours, but relatively easy. The OETTINGER intercooler is supplied as a complete kit including all connecting and fitting parts. By significantly reducing the temperature of the previously compressed charge air as compared to the series, especially by high ambient temperatures and in hot countries, the larger OETTINGER intercooler ensures: increased engine power, lower consumption, improved responsiveness and efficient reduction of the radiator temperature.

The Carbon dynamic pressure charging intake for 2.0 TSI engine is also a good upgrade for the intake. Due to the optimized flow form and the excess pressure created, more air is fed to the engine as the speed increases; this in turn leads to a noticeably improved response and increased power. The series air box is no longer required after the conversion. It also looks good under the hood.
The highly polished stainless steel exhaust system from the OETTINGER turbocharger back, with its distinctive sound will also naturally be included as will a larger intercooler. With a larger bore Ø70mm, you get a sporty sound and more power.

The aerodynamics also makes a big impact. This bodykit consists of a OETTINGER front spoiler with carbon lip, side skirts and rear diffuser. All the parts are manufactured in high quality RRIM for an exact fit and is primed ready for painting. For further noticeable fun and noble appearance you can choose the 20” OETTINGER type RXX sport wheels, Carbon interior, stainless steel kick plates, finest floor mats and aluminium pedals.
