APS, the UK dealer of the Swiss-based Sportec tuning firm, has announced the launch of a new Stage One ECU package for the Volkswagen Golf R hot hatch. In stock form, the Golf R's 2.0-liter turbocharged engine delivers 267bhp and 258 lb-ft (354Nm) of torque. With the software upgrade, output is bumped from to 300bhp at ,6000rpm and 321lb.ft (440Nm) of torque at 2750 rpm.
As a result, APS claims that the Golf R's 0-100 kmh (0-62mph) acceleration time is reduced from 5.7 to 5.3 seconds, with the top speed increasing to 160mph or 265 km/h.
The ECU package is suitable for both six speed manual and DSG dual-clutch transmission versions of the Golf R, with pricing set at £649 including installation, road testing and VAT (17.5%).
