Remus Unveils Brand New Stainless Steel Exhaust System For Mk5 Polo GTi

You’ve got to hand it to the boffins over at VW, they know precisely what’s involved with making a hot hatch. Want proof? Then you only need look to the latest version of the all-conquering Polo, the recently facelifted Mk5 GTi. Already a powerful car that’s more than capable of punching above its weight in factory guise, the GTi can be turned into a real show-stopper via the addition of one of Remus’ all new stainless steel exhausts.

The exhaust guru’s latest offering promises to be one of their most popular products to date, managing to balance performance with a suitably aggressive note. The core of the system consists of a choice of three 60mm stainless steel sports exhausts (a 5mm increase over the OEM system), one with a resonator, one without, and one fully integrated electronic valves, the latter supplied with a remote control to operate the valve control unit. The latter is an especially trick addition as the Polo isn’t fitted with a valved exhaust as standard, meaning this is a complete solution designed and built entirely by Remus. Very much a ‘best of both worlds’ product, the integrated exhaust valves allow for the volume of the system to be simply and swiftly toggled up or down at the click of a button, and is therefore ideal for those that value an aggressive exhaust note yet also need to use their Polo for everyday, daily driving duties.

Six distinct tail pipe options are available for the Polo GTi. The first consists of a pair of chromed and angled 90mm pipes, while the other five are all 84mm in diameter. The other five options are all twin pipe, 84mm offerings; the first with a chromed finish, the second with a Street Race design, the third with a Carbon Race finish, the fourth with a subtle Street Race Black Chrome coating, and the fifth with stunning titanium internals. All six can be fitted to the Polo with ease, and none require the rear bumper to be modified in order to function correctly.

As is the case with all Remus systems, the quality of the workmanship involved is second to none, well above that of offerings from other manufactures and even rivaling OEM levels of fit and finish. Extensive testing of the system on the firm’s own development cars has revealed a noticeable increase in performance across the rev range, plus the aforementioned exhaust note that manages to be aggressive without ever becoming overpowering or obtrusive.

Remus exhaust systems offer clear performance benefits thanks to their careful design and carefully honed gas flow properties, but Polo owners can take advantage of one of the company’s other significant developments, the Powerizer. Designed for those seeking more performance from their car without having to go to the trouble of extensively modifying their engine internals, the Remus Powerizer can boost peak power by as much as 25% and torque by a hefty 20%. These amazing improvements are achieved thanks to the Powerizer’s ability to toggle the engine management parameters in real time, optimising the nature of the map multiple times per second in order to ensure peak gas flow at any given time.

There’s an added benefit to the Powerizer, one that perhaps isn’t as obvious as the performance advances, and that’s improved fuel economy. The added torque created lower down the rev range means the engine doesn’t have to work as hard to propel the car along the road, resulting in improvements in MPG. Remus technicians optimize the Powerizer to suit the needs of the customer, though the instructions included with each kit allow for it to be adjusted at a later date should the need arise, and all by simply pushing the clearly defined buttons on the control unit.

Finally there’s the Remus Responder, another innovation that’s been designed to improve the driving experience and complement the performance of Remus exhaust systems. As the name implies, the Responder improves throttle response by adjusting the accelerator pedal output signal, resulting in noticeably reduced response and reduced lag when when applied cars with an automatic transmissions. Easily and swiftly installed between the OEM pedal sensor and the OEM connector, the Remus Responder can be unpacked, fitted and up and running in minutes, and all thanks to the plug and play technology at its very heart. The Responder operates using sophisticated adjustable programming profiles, technology that can lead to improved fuel consumption and more efficient engine running, while the four user-selectable and customisable performance settings give drivers greater freedom to tune the system to their specific needs.

Already one of the finest hot hatches on the market, the VW Polo GTi can be sharpened and made all the more potent via the addition of the all new Remus exhaust system.
